Stampin Up Bokeh Background Butterfly

Have you heard of the BOKEH TECHNIQUE???
It is a really cool technique that has been doing the rounds of the the card craft sites lately.
It comes from a Photography term that describes those blurred images where you get a kind of "dappled lights" effect.
Still haven't a clue what I am on about!? LOL.
Come and have a look.

Start with a piece of white cardstock and ink it up with a sponge in several colours. I used Melon Mambo, Tempting Turquoise and Calypso Coral for the card above.
You can spritz it with a bit of water to help blend the colours if you like.
Dry it with a heat gun.

Then punch out 3 different size circles into some acetate or I just used cardstock.
Circle Punch sizes: 3/4" ; 1" ; 1 3/8"

Place your circles onto card and using a sponge dauber and white craft ink colour inside your circles.
Start with the largest circle first and place it randomly around your card. Then the second largest circle and finally the smallest.

With each circle make your ink a bit more intense. So the largest circles will be the lightest shade of white. Keep adding circles until you are happy with your background piece.
Make sure some are overlapping.

Once you are finished make sure you use your heat gun to dry the white craft ink as it takes a long time to dry on it's own.
 Some samples.
For this card I have cut the largest butterfly with the Butterflies Thinlits Dies - Occasions Catalogue.
I have cut the butterfly in Melon Mambo cardstock and Silver Foil and layered them together.
As you can see I have dropped the Melon Mambo Butterfly just a little below the Silver Foil Butterfly so you can see the Silver Foil below.
I like this technique.

Hope you enjoyed this little tutorial today. Any questions feel free to leave me a comment or send me an email.
Happy Stamping Vx
