Happy travels.

I had a terrible night last night. Just couldn't sleep. So what else was there to do but get up and do a card challenge! LOL! (yawn).

Over at the Male Room, the challenge is to make a Masculine Retirement Card.
I pulled out my World Map Background Stamp and went to work.

I also used stamps from You're Amazing, Postage Due, Teeny Tiny Sentiments."way to go" is from a retired SU set.

I liked the film framelits from the On Film Framelits set in the All Occasions Catalogue and also added a bit of metallic "bling" with small silver brads and an essential hardware clip.

Cardstock: Bermuda Bay, Brown Sugar, Soft Sky, Smoky Slate and black.
Ink: black
Punch: Ticket Punch, Postage Stamp

All in all, I think this card could be used for any occasion. Just change the sentiment: Best Wishes, Congratulations, Happy Birthday. It would work well with any of these.

Hope you have a good weekend. I'm hoping for a better nights sleep myself.
Thanks for stopping by. I love hearing from you.

If you want to join in the Male Room Challenge is still going. Why not pop over and check it out.

Watercolour By the Tide

I decided to play with the colour combo in Dynamic Duos Colour Challenge this week.
Melon Mambo, Wild Wasabi and Tangerine Tango.

Using a piece of Watercolour Cardstock I stamped various images from the By The Tide Stamp Set to create a underwater scene as the colours reminded me of snorkelling around the coral reefs on the Great Barrier Reef.
Each image was stamped in versa mark and then embossed with white embossing powder.

I placed the three colours of ink into a little artist palette and added some water to dilute. Then using an aqua painter I washed the colours over the picture.

This is how it turned out.

Cardstock: Tangerine Tango, Black, White, Watercolour, Melon Mambo (around verse)
Ink refill bottles: Tangerine Tango, Melon Mambo, Wild Wasabi.
Inkpad: Versamark, Black Staz on
Embossing Powder: White, Gold
On Film Framelit for the white border background piece.
Stamp Sets: By the Tide, Gorgeous Grunge (for the sea bubbles in white and gold)
Verse: Computer generated

How I did it.
I stamped the shell and seahorse and white bubbles first and embossed them. Then I stamped the coral (or is that a sea plant?? let's call it coral!) and embossed that. I then washed the card stock with the watered down ink and wiped away any excess with a paper towel. I felt it needed something more so added the sea bubbles again in gold for a bit of shine. The strip at the bottom was just a piece cut from the top of the scene that I didn't need but didn't want to waste either.

A final word or tip.
This card is going to a special friend who has been diagnosed with cancer and I was very frustrated with wanting to find the right words for the front of the card.
Then I remembered that with a computer I can have ANY sentiment or greeting I want! In ANY size or font I want! LOL! I really need to remember that more often!!!!

Thanks for stopping by. Come back again soon. Vx

In the Pink! A very "girly" card.

I had a card to make for a lovely friend. She loves PINK, vintage, shabby chic. If she were a flower she would be a rose - all beautiful and sweet. It seemed like a fairly simple task really as I already know a lot of things she likes. So with that in mind I set about attempting to translate this into my card design.
I thought I would use the card sketch from Just Add Inks Challenge for this week.

Well.....after much, stamping, cutting, embossing, trying this and that...
I finally came up with a card!
Base: Melon Mambo
Gingham Garden dsp
lace doily
Pistachio Pudding strip embossed with Delicate Designs emboss folder.

It is very frilly, flowery and pink! With plenty of bling.

I embossed the Apothecary Art Stamp in black and coloured in the roses with Melon Mambo and Old Olive then sponged around the edges with Pistachio Pudding. Cut it out with the matching Labels Collection Framelit.
The banner part in the middle was stamped on Gingham Garden dsp in black and then cut out and stuck on.
I used a label Chalk Talk Stamp and matching framelit and placed the Hello Lovely from the Hello Lovely Stamp Set in the centre.  Cut out with the 1 1/4 inch circle punch. I stamped both of these in Melon Mambo.

The "sweet friend" stamp is actually the bottom half of a stamp from the Hexagon Stamp Set that says "hello sweet friend". I just stamped it several times and cut it off below the "hello".
The three random diamantes at the top are covering a black ink mark that appeared literally as I finished the card!! sigh...!

So there it is a very Pink and girly card.

And here is my desk! I think I was working in a 6 inch space by the end of it! LOL!

Twinkle Twinkle Little Star

I was in luck this week with the Paperplayers "Clean and Simple, Stars" Challenge

and the papercraftcrew Sketch Challenge

I knew I could combine the two for my baby card.
Whenever I make a baby card for someone it usually looks a lot like this anyway.
In either soft sky or pink pirouette depending on the new arrival.
The greeting Twinkle twinkle, little star - darling baby here you are!
Is just perfect with a sprinkling of colour matched stars. It is an old retired SU stamp and I think I use it on every baby card I make. LOL! I stamped in Marina Mist and hand cut the wavy banner.

Whisper white card stock is embossed with the Perfectly Polka Dots Emboss Folder.
Punched a large star with the retired SU Star Punch. The smaller one in the middle is the retired SU small star punch.
Of course I used the SU Simply Stars Stamp Set in the main catalogue for the polka dot stars.

The tiny stars are cut out using the small star from  the Scentsational Framelit set that was in the Holiday Catalogue a few years back. I stamped the Simply Stars Polka Dot Star onto whisper white and then placed the framelit over it to cut out. Thus getting a smaller version of my polka dot star to work with.
And the little striped banners are from the Perfectly Pennants Stamp Set in the New All Occasions Catalogue.

Here is my Clean and Simple card all finished.

Colours used:
Soft Sky, Marina Mist, Whisper White and Silver Glimmer card stock.

The Simply Stars Stamp Set on page 124 of the main catalogue is such an overlooked set I think.
Great value - did you know you can purchase this set for AUS $18.95 clear or AUS$22.95 wood.

It is what I call a Pantry Stamp. A staple you should keep on hand. It can be used on its own, as a background or as a compliment to other stamps.

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by. I am hoping for rain today it has been so hot. Fans are going flat out. The sky is grey but no sign of rain yet. sigh.

There is still time if you want to join in the Challenges just pop on over. The more the merrier!

It all began with a Swallowtail - the Crafters Dilemma!

Greetings Happy Stampers!
Today has been a hot one here and I have been sweating it out in my craft room.

I had this Swallowtail butterfly lying around for a couple of weeks. It was left over from an idea that went "south" and I just couldn't figure out what to do with it, the butterfly not the idea.
I didn't want to throw it away - the Crafters Dilemma! After all I had gone to the trouble of gold embossing it onto Soft Sky card stock and then carefully cutting it out! lol! We've all been there, right?

Yesterday I showed you a card I had made with the lovely Hardwood Background stamp and I thought the butterfly might look good on that.
I cut the butterfly down to fit on the card front and stamped Hardwood Background onto Crumbcake card stock with Early Expresso Ink.
But it still needed something?
A doily? Or two??
Come and see how it eventually went together.....

I sponged the top doily in marina mist ink and cut the white one in half so it could be layered behind it.
The doilies had creases running down the centre and I wanted to hide that so I put those lovely diamantes running up and down in different sizes. (And you just thought I was being artistically clever didn't you! haha.) Nope.

Another big problem I had when it was done was that I stupidly used some glue on the doilies. Bad idea. As the glue often seeps through, leaving sticky residue on top of your doily.
So the cute little hand made tag cleverly tied with Island Indigo Bakers Twine is really another coverup!!! LOL!
That little greeting came from a retired SU set that I will never get rid of.  I stamped it in Marina Mist.
The butterfly is glued down on the left side and its right wing is raised with dimensionals.

So all in all, this was a very "organic" card that virtually created itself - by way of problem solving issues that kept arising. But I didn't give up and Ta Da!! I am very happy with the result.

Hope you like it too and maybe it will give you some ideas as well.
Sometimes it is better just to throw things away and start again... but then, other times a little perserverence can actually pay off!
As the saying goes "love life"

Have a great day and I will catch you next time. Thanks so much for stopping by, love hearing from you. Vx

Make a Wish

Besides the Petite petal punch and stamp set in the All Occasions Catalogue another thing I love is the Hardwood Background Stamp!

So fantastic. I had to make a couple of cards and so combined all my favourites from this new Catalogue.
As well as one of the new Tag Topper Punches.

The leaves in the background are from summer silhouettes Stamp Set.
Greeting from Perfect Pennants Stamp Set
I have wrapped a doily around the tag. The doily is inked in Crumbcake.

Sahara Sand, Early Expresso, Whisper White
Designer paper tag - Sweet Sorbet Saleabration pack
Hardwood Background Stamp
Greeting - Perfect Pennants stamp set
Petite petals punch and stamp in Crisp Cantaloupe
Butterfly large and small punch and Papillion Potpourri Stamp set in white and crumb cake
Linen thread

This card is easy to change up colours with. Here is another one I did for a friend's birthday.

The flowers are stamped in Marina Mist and the designer paper is from Sweet Sorbet Saleabration pack. I didn't ink the doily in this one.

So if you could make a wish for something from the new All Occasions Catalogue what would it be?
Maybe the petite flowers stamp set and punch or the lovely Hardwood Background Stamp?
Or like me you just want them all! haha.

Thanks for your continued support and dropping by when you can. Love seeing you here.

Banner birthday

Today I wanted to make a card for a friend's 70th birthday.
My dilemma was that I didn't want to use the petite petals punch and stamp set!! LOL!
Which I feel I have become a little obsessed with lately.
Do you ever get that way? Find you are using the same stamps or framelits or punches (usually the latest ones) over and over again?

So I looked around and found a card by my friend Carolyn. (You can view the original here.)
This card is very different to what I usually make but I thought I could work with the layout style.

Next I went with a yellow theme. What colours go with Daffodil yellow? I checked my handy dandy Colour Coach p.137 of the catalogue and found Night of Navy goes well. Found some nice designer paper from Gingham Garden with both these colours. Perfect. I was on my way.

I have seen a few cards with the doily gold embossed and decided to try it myself.
Looks gorgeous. So regal. I had to add a crown from my stash.
I stamped flowering flourishes in the background of the circle and the Happy Birthday is from You're Amazing Stamp Set.

The card turned out really well I thought.
And not a petite petal flower, punched or stamped anywhere!!!! Wow!
Actually now I am looking at it I think I may just add three little diamantes to the crown?? What do you think? A little bit more bling couldn't hurt could it?
Then I will get it off in the post to her.

Colours used:
Daffodil Yellow, Night of Navy, Whisper White
Gold ink and gold embossing powder on white doily.
Fancy Fan Embossing Folder (this is on the yellow banner)
Gingham Garden dsp
Flowering Flourishes Stamp Set
You're Amazing Stamp Set
Banner framelits
Crown and chipboard no. from my stash.

So if you are finding yourself using the same items again and again why not break out a little and experiment with a new style? There are thousands of card designs out there to choose from.
And you can always use this one if you like. I can recommend it.

Thanks for stopping by. Hope to see you again real soon.

Retro Happy

I love this saying "You make me Happy when skies are gray". It is part of the Saleabration set "See ya later Alligator" and you can get the set for free until the end of March with any purchase of $90Aus. worth of products from our catalogues. Just let me know if you are interested.

This card I made is for my hubby"Awwwww" I hear you say. I must be getting sentimental cause he is away visiting his family in New Zealand at the moment.
When you make male cards it can be hard because there is so much you can't do to the card.

I went with a retro style and used a favourite technique. Embedding the circles into the white card stock with the Lattice Embossing Folder.

Okay so I couldn't resist one little bit of "bling" in the centre of the heart! But really it just jumped on there when I wasn't looking! hehe.
And here it is in all it's Retro glory. You could give this to a male or female really except I would probably make the base card Daffodil Yellow for a female friend. Yellow is such a "Happy" colour don't you think?

I have used several different size circle punches.
See ya later Alligator Stamp Set
Lattice Embossing Folder
Daffodil Yellow, Basic Black and Whisper White card stock.
Small heart punch.

I thought I would enter this card into two challenges this week.
Papercraftcrew Sketch Challenge

and Simplylessismore "masculine" card challenge.

Thank you for stopping by. Love having you visit. Come back again soon.

Sweet Stripes?

Well this week at Just Add Ink it is Just Add Stripes.

So I set to work with a few of my favourite stripy things.
The Sweet Sorbet Designer Paper from the Saleabration brochure has a lovely striped piece which I wanted to use.
I also love the Stripes Embossing Folder so I dug that out too.

I was playing with the Summer Silhouettes and made the lattice background with the stamp from that set. Stamped in Coastal Cabana and lined up with the Stampamajig.
Stamped some leaves in Pistachio Pudding and then added a cut out leaf in that colour card stock.
Leaf from the Secret Gardens Framelits set.

Petite Petals punch and stamp set and the large flower from Flower shop stamp set.
Greeting from Label Love and using the Artisan Label Punch.

Colours used:
Smoky Slate, Crisp Cantaloupe, Whisper White
Ink: So Saffron, Crisp Cantaloupe, Bermuda Bay, Coastal Cabana.

This card I felt I borrowed some inspiration from my good buddy Carolyn who uses Smoky Slate all the time! I tried four different colours before I thought of her and decided to try it myself.... and I liked it!!! Thanks Carolyn. Another reminder I must not rule out colours just because I struggle to use them.

Can you believe how many challenges I am doing at the moment? It is all part of my therapy to relax and just enjoy the card making process without having any pressure that doing this as a business can bring with it.
I guess it is a holiday "card making style" for me. A much needed break. Admittedly in the beginning I couldn't even go into the craft room.  Then I decided it needed a complete clean out (will have to show you pictures of that sometime).  And finally I decided just to try making a few cards for fun. That is where the challenges came in. They give me some ideas and a bit of a challenge without as I said the pressure. "Will they like it", "Are they getting their money's worth", "What products do I need to highlight and show examples of", "Have to clean the house", "Have to make some cakes", "Have to be ready half an hour early in case of earlybirds". Oh My Goodness! I can feel my anxiety levels rising just thinking of it!! haha!

No this is good and I will continue along this path for the time being.
Hope you will come along and continue to visit.
Thanks for stopping by. Vx

Mosaic musings and how to keep a straight line.

Do you ever see something in the catalogue and think immediately - Wow I must have that!! Then you get it home and it sits there and sits there and never sees the light of day????

Well that is my Mosaic Madness Stamp Set and Punch (and the embossing folder!).
I saw it and just had to have it! Then there it sat and sat and sat.

You see I realise now I am not really a "geometric" "shapes" kinda girl. So as much as I love seeing cards made with them I really don't know what to do with them myself.
So I have made a point this week to pull out this poor under used set and use it!

With the Paperplayers Colour Challenge this week.

Are you ever inspired by colors, patterns and textures you see while shopping?  I sure am and I fell in love with this display while having a great shopping day with my Mom and daughter.  :-) I couldn't wait to bring this inspiration to you!  You're not limited by the colors either, look at the stripes in the jewelry, the hardware, the shapes--whatever makes your heart sing!

So I looked at these colours and shapes in the picture and I thought of the links in the background stamps in the Mosaic Madness Set. I combined the suggested colours with some Calypso Coral as well to add a bit more depth to the card.
Come and see how I went.

Cardstock and ink colours: Midnight Muse, Calypso Coral, Crisp Cantaloupe, Gold Glimmer and whisper white.
Mosaic Madness Stamp Set
Mosaic Punch
Banner Framelits
Greeting from Perfect Pennants (new All Occasions mini)
Itty Bitty Punch Set - flower punch
Candy dots.

See how straight those lines of back ground are?
Want to know how I did it??

Clear Mount Perfectly Placed Guides. Place on blocks to perfectly align stamp images Repositionable, variety of guide lines.
There are two sheets with all different shapes and sizes in the pack and they are only $9.95 Aus.
Check it out on p.197 of the main catalogue.

Here is one attached to my stamp. It is vinyl so just peels straight off again.

There I stuck it back on the sheet to prove it. Now isn't that a good idea or what?!!! Love it!

Yes that is right Clear Mount Perfectly Placed Guides - You Make Me Happy!!! haha.

If you have trouble keeping a straight line straight maybe you could consider adding them to your next order? Don't forget Saleabration is in full swing at the moment and every $90Aus spent earns you a free product from the Saleabration brochure.

Thanks for dropping by. Hope you come back again soon. Vx

p.s. I have just viewed this online and the writing is sometimes big and sometimes small. If anyone knows what I am doing wrong please let me know as in the Blogger original post (where I edit) it all looks the same size?)

Challenge on the double!

Hehe. So I was in a hurry to complete the Papercraft Crew Challenge today and quickly got to work with the card stock colours I had set out.
Now don't ask me why but the colours on the table were ready to do the Just Add Ink Challenge and for some unknown reason I forgot that and thought these were part of the Papercraft Crew Challenge Sketch as well!

So I have completed my card and now realise I have combined the two challenges!!! Something I would never attempt usually!

So I am entering this card in both challenges.
